House of Doc is about to tackle an a cappella Christmas recording, during the sweaty heat of summer.  We’ll be heading west to Vancouver and recording an EP of Christmas music, to be produced by Vince Ditrich, starting at the end of July.  We’ll be using at least two separate venues (they are yet to be confirmed) but it is looking as if one will be a lovely medium sized church, and the other a great huge cathedral, both of which give a unique character to the live 4-piece vocal a cappella performances.  We are shooting for a late November release and will be sure to give you updates as we record, mix and prepare to release it to the world.

Hi everyone!  We’re back at it after a few weeks of rest and we are looking forward to some Ontario concert action in the next few weeks.

On 29 May we’ll be playing a great fund raising event for MCC Canada in New Hamburg, Ontario.  This will be a great event, to be held at the Wilmot Rec Complex on 1291 Nafziger Road, in New Hamburg, Ontario.  Tickets at nhmrs.com and at Heart ‘n Home Creations, 115A Peel St., New Hamburg and at Mennonite Savings and Credit Unions

$20(adults) $10(children 12 and under)

Show starts at 8 pm and we hope to see you there.

We also have some intimate and incredible House Concerts upcoming – We’ll post the info for these shows in the next week or so as we get the important details ironed out.

On June 20th & 21st we’ll be performing at the ‘Latitudes Storytelling Festival’ at Victoria Park on Roos Island in Kitchener, Ontario.    Latitudes is held in conjunction with the K/W Multicultural Fest.  Our show is slated for 7:30 pm on the 20th of June at Trinity United Church on Frederick Street.  The next day, June 21, from 4:30 to 5:30 we will put on a workshop (exact location TBA).

Plans for recording are spooling up, and House of Doc plans to do the near-impossible:  Record Christmas music in the sweltering heat of summer.  Stay tuned for updates as well as incriminating photos of Yuletide singers in Santa hats and Speedos.

Hi and Happy 2009 to everyone!

We hope you had a great holiday season – We certainly did and it kicked off with two sold out and highly successful ‘Quinzmas’ performances on 12 & 13 December at the Park Theatre in Winnipeg.  It really, truly was a spectacular event and sets the bar very high indeed for 2009’s installment.  After a rejuvenating holiday we’re looking at a pretty busy schedule throughout the year.

House of Doc’s plan for 2009 includes two separate recordings, one of them specifically focused on Christmas music.  We’ve had plenty of requests for this kind of recording and we’ve finally got the opportunity to tackle it.  As you might imagine it’s still too early to tell songs we’ll be recording, where we record it, and when it will be finished but of course we’ll keep you updated as we figure it all out.

In March we are making a short run to Ontario – please check out our tour schedule to get times and details.

The Docs

Hi Everyone!  We know it’s getting to be Christmas because we are preparing for ‘Quinzmas’!!!!  This year we are appearing, as ever, with our dear friends ‘Quinzy’ at the Park Theatre (698 Osborne St, Wpg) on Dec 12th and 13th.  The shows are being taped for broadcast Christmas Day on CBC Radio 1.  This is the 4th Annual Quinzmas, so be there to celebrate the season with us in high style.  There will be guests, surprises, and we suspect a vast amount of laughter will also be on tap.

We recently returned from a tour of Alberta and BC, with several stops on Vancouver Island this time.  A show in Victoria on Nov 22nd, at the gorgeous St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church (which looks like a smaller version of the Grand Ol’ Opry) was a huge success and a tremendous amount of fun.  Our private house concert at ‘Sweet Bean’s Casa’ was more like a major league concert – a very large and beautiful venue chock full of superfans.  What an event!

4th Annual ‘Quinzmas’ officially announced!!!!

On December 12th & 13th Quinzy, with guests ‘House of Doc’ will present their 4th annual ‘Quinzmas’ multi-media Christmas extravaganza – This year being held at the ‘Park Theatre (698 Osborne Street, Wpg), and for the first time being presented over two nights.

Tickets are $15 advance and $20 at the door, and are available at ticketmaster.ca , the West End Cultural Centre and at the Park Theatre.

Tickets are going to go very quickly so please get yours soon!

Neither sleet nor snow nor atrocious windstorms shall prevent us from touring in November!  This month we work our way west to Alberta on a short tour in support of ‘The Good Brothers’, and continue all the way to Vancouver Island.

Hi everyone – With September here, and with the leaves already turning colour, we are revving up for some touring, showcasing and a lot of concert appearances before year’s end.  At the end of September we are appearing at the SRSS Theatre in Steinbach, Manitoba.  Show starts at 7pm and tickets are $16.  For more information please contact:  The Steinbach Arts Council:  204-346-1077 or email:  sacarts@mts.net

In October we will be hitting the road to do a couple of ‘showcases’ in Alberta.  First one is for the Alberta Touring Alliance on Oct 17 in Red Deer, AB, to be held at Red Deer College.  The very next day we dart up to Edmonton to play a special Western Canadian Music Association showcase / concert with our friends Quinzy, Captain Tractor and of course Spirit of the West, who are to be inducted into the Hall of Fame the next day.  A wristband to the WCMA festival buys you entry to this very special show, to be held at the McDougall United Church – apparently a place of worship by day which moonlights as a rocking music venue when the sun goes down!!  This truly is a once-in-a-lifetime show.  We are looking forward to it greatly and hope that you’ll attend.

November has us heading west once again.  We will be appearing with ‘The Good Brothers’ in Alberta (please see our show schedule for deets) and then we are heading to the west coast again.  Dates for those shows are being firmed up right now but you can expect to see us in Vancouver, Victoria, Qualicum Beach and perhaps a couple of other Vancouver Island destinations during that week or so.  Stay tuned for announcements.

Hi everyone….We’ve had our little rest and now it’s time to hit the road for the summer.  If you would like to know where you can see us onstage and in performance, please look to your left, in the margin and click on the Sonicbids logo.  It will show you our calendar and it is updated as frequently as we get fresh information.  If it’s not listed there, it’s not known, confirmed, believable or otherwise bankable!!!

On August 3rd we will be on beautiful Vancouver Island, in Comox, for the ‘Filberg Festival‘. We are performing twice that day, once at 3pm and again at 5:30.  Please join us.

The very next weekend, August 8-10, after a pretty serious cross continental journey, we will be on the OTHER COAST OF CANADA.  Who routed this mess?  Anyway, we are absolutely delighted to have been asked to return to the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival, in gorgeous Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.  They are working us hard, though!  Anyone attending will be able to catch us a number of times over the weekend.  Check out the Festival website for details:  www.folkharbour.com

Weekend after that, August 15-17, we will be appearing at ‘Summerfolk’ in Owen Sound, Ontario.  We will be well into the rhythm of the Folk Fest by then and we are excited to be involved in performances and workshops over the weekend.

For those of you who live in or near Toronto, we have a very special performance scheduled at ‘Hugh’s Room’.  This is one of the premiere Folk venues anywhere in the world so we would be most delighted to have you attend.  Visit Hugh’s Room website for showtime and ticket information.

While we’re in Ontario we have a couple of other shows on the slate that are going to be a lot of fun.  The first one is on August 20th at the Rockway Mennonite Church in Kitchener – 32 Weber Street.  It’s a FREE CONCERT with your donations going to the Mennonite Central Committee.  Showtime is 8pm.
